POKEMON POKEMON BASE SET 2 PLAYER STARTER (1999) DENTS & DINGS DISCOUNT (1)
The 2-Player Starter Set contains 61 cards (unlike standard vintage theme decks, which contain 60). Because it is designed to teach two people simultaneously, the cards are meant to be split into two pre-constructed 30-card half-decks:
• The Fighting Deck: Built around Fighting-type Pokémon like Machop and Diglett, plus Colorless Pokémon like Rattata and Dratini.
• The Fire Deck: Built around Fire-type Pokémon like Charmander and Growlithe.
• The 61st Card: A holographic 1st Edition Machamp.
• Accessories: Includes a standard cardboard rulebook (v.1), a quick-start rules sheet, red felt/cardboard damage counters, and a Base Set card checklist. (Note: Unlike later decks, the 1999 original did not include a coin
The Machamp Phenomenon
The crown jewel of this set is the holographic Machamp. WOTC made a unique printing decision: Machamp was never available in regular Base Set booster packs. The only way to obtain it was inside this starter set. Furthermore, every single English printing of this Machamp in the starter set carries a "1st Edition" stamp—meaning an "Unlimited" non-stamped version of the Base Set Machamp does not officially exist in English.
NOTE: NOT FOR COLLECTORS - PACKAGING HAS 2 MINOR DENTED CORNER, AND SIDE, plus SCRATCH SEE PICTURES
